Blue Jays' Hinske named AL Rookie of Month for June
Eric Hinske of the Toronto Blue Jays has been voted the American League Rookie of the Month for June.
In 25 games, Hinske batted .338 (27-for-80) with 19 runs, seven doubles, a triple, six home runs and 15 RBI. The 24-year-old third baseman posted a .675 slugging percentage, a .442 on-base percentage and seven multi-hit games, including the first multi-home run game of his career on June 4 against Tampa Bay. He ended the month with a nine-game hitting streak, during which he batted .429 (15-35).
Other exceptional rookies who received consideration for the award were: Kevin Mench of the Rangers (.333, 7 HR, 15 RBI), Jorge Julio of the Orioles (2-1, 1.46, 7 saves), Aaron Guiel of the Royals (.435, 1 HR, 10 RBI, 8 games), Aaron Harang of the Athletics (2-2, 2.51) and Bobby Kielty of the Twins (.341, 3 HR, 11 RBI).
Hinske will receive a specially designed, engraved award from the T.R. Miller Company to commemorate his Rookie of the Month performance.
