Devil Rays to pick first in draft

The Tampa Bay Devil Rays will have the first pick in the 2003 First-Year Player Draft, to be held via conference call June 3-5 in New York, Major League Baseball announced today.

The selection rotation is determined by the clubs' reverse order of finish in their respective leagues, at the close of the previous championship season. American League clubs select first in odd-numbered years, with the leagues alternating selections to form the rotation. The draft will have 50 rounds and will conclude after all 30 teams have passed on a selection or after the final selection in the 50th round, whichever comes first.

MLB.com Radio, the nation's only all baseball Internet radio station, will provide exclusive live coverage of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft on MLB.com, the official web site of Major League Baseball.
