Pirates' Jason Bay voted National League Rookie of the Month for July
Jason Bay of the Pittsburgh Pirates, who hit .338 with 20 RBI last month, has been voted National League Rookie of the Month of July, his second consecutive award.
Bay hit four home runs to lead all rookies for the month, while his RBI total also led NL rookies. He recorded 27 hits in 80 at bats, including nine doubles, in his 22 games. He had a .600 slugging percentage and a .400 on-base percentage and scored 13 runs.
Other rookies receiving votes included: Pirates teammates Sean Burnett (4-1, 3.64 ERA) and Tony Alvarez (.444 slugging percentage); Kaz Matsui of the Mets (.336, 14 RBI); Rockies teammates Aaron Miles (.300, 14 RBI) and Matt Holliday (.357, 11 RBI); Khalil Greene of the Padres (14 RBI); Chad Cordero of the Expos (6 SV, 3.38 ERA); Charles Thomas of the Braves (.342, 10 RBI); and Greg Aquino of the Diamondbacks (2 SV, 3.75 ERA).
Bay will receive a specially-designed award for being voted National League Rookie of the Month for July.
