Carlos Lee wins Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week award

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Carlos Lee, who was tied for the league lead with nine RBI, has been named Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week for the period of May 2-8, 2005. Bank of America, the official bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the National League and American League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect the bank's long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment.

Lee, a first-year National Leaguer, batted .423 (11-26) with two home runs, four doubles, six runs scored and one stolen base. Over his six games played, he collected 21 total bases and put together a slugging percentage of .808 and a .464 on-base percentage. Lee had at least one hit in all six of Milwaukee's games this week and had multiple hit games in four of those contests. He is currently in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak.

Other nominees this past week included Pittsburgh's Jason Bay (.387, 3 HR, 7 RBI) and Matt Lawton (.345, 2 HR, 6 RBI); Carlos Beltran (.345, 3 HR, 9 RBI) and Pedro Martinez (2-0, 3.86 ERA, 17 SO) of the Mets; Atlanta's Andruw Jones (.450, 2 HR, 6 RBI), Adam LaRoche (.389. 1 HR, 9 RBI) and John Thomson (1-0, 3.00 ERA, 1 CG); Craig Biggio (.458, 1 HR, 7 RBI) of the Astros; San Francisco's Pedro Feliz (.455, 1 HR, 4 RBI); Miguel Cabrera (.474, 1 HR, 6 RBI) of the Marlins; Washington's Livan Hernandez (1-0, 2.00 ERA, 1 CG); Brian Giles (.333, 2 HR, 9 RBI) of the Padres; Arizona's Luis Gonzalez (.440, 2 HR, 5 RBI); Jason Marquis (2-0, 3.21 ERA, 5 SO) of the Cardinals; Cincinnati's Felipe Lopez (.421, 1 HR, 8 RBI); Jeff Weaver (2-0, 2.84 ERA, 15 SO) of the Dodgers; and Milwaukee teammates Brady Clark (.435, 1 HR, 3 RBI) and Derrick Turnbow (3-0, 2.25 ERA, 1 SV).
