Major League Baseball and Cerveza Presidente will host the "Presidente Festival del Béisbol" in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from June 4-12, it was announced today. The weeklong Festival, which will be located in the Malecon section of the city adjacent to the Feria Ganadera, will coincide with the end of the 2005 Major League Baseball All-Star Balloting program in the Dominican Republic - also sponsored by Presidente. As part of the festival, 1987 American League Most Valuable Player George Bell will be on hand to open the event, and on the final day Presidente will award an exclusive trip for two to the 76th MLB All-Star Game at Comerica Park in Detroit.

The "Presidente Festival del Béisbol" provides fans with a genuine Major League Baseball experience including more than 10 different baseball-themed attractions. Participants have the opportunity to take swings in batting cages, test their pitching speed and accuracy in the pitching tunnels and run the bases. Each attraction lets participants challenge their friends and compare their scores to those of actual Major League players. The Festival also will include a newly designed mini-field, a photo studio and an interactive zone with Sony Playstation2 consoles and an 84-inch plasma TV.

Verizon also will be part of the "Presidente Festival del Béisbol" and will sponsor several attractions including the "Strike Zone," "Power Swing" and "Interactive Zone." The telecommunications company will supply the "Interactive Zone" with broadband connections so fans can access MLB.com, the official Web site of Major League Baseball.

Major League Baseball's television partner in the Dominican Republic, CDN, will provide live daily Festival coverage during the evening news and sports shows. CDN also will set up a broadcast booth from the Festival with CDN commentators providing live play-by-play and commentary for MLB games being shown on big screen televisions during the Festival.

"We are extremely excited to work with our long-time partner Cerveza Presidente to bring the Major League Baseball festival to the Dominican Republic," said Paul Archey, Senior Vice President, International Business Operations, Major League Baseball. "There is a great passion for Major League Baseball in the Dominican Republic, and the 'Presidente Festival del Béisbol' provides us with a great opportunity to interact with a large number of fans and further strengthen their connection to the game."

Santo Domingo is the second stop for the "Festival del Béisbol" on its Latin American tour. MLB unveiled the newly designed amusement park in Mazatlán, Mexico on February 1 as part of the weeklong Serie del Caribe tournament. The Festival was a great success, with more than 4,000 people participating in the various activities each day.
