Garrett Atkins of the Colorado Rockies, who recorded a .364 batting average with 26 RBI during the month of June, has been voted National League Rookie of the Month.

Atkins led all NL rookies in RBI, hits (39), at bats (107) and doubles (9) for the month. He also finished tied for second with 15 runs scored. The rookie third baseman hit three home runs while putting together a .533 slugging percentage and a .381 on-base percentage over 27 games played. His 26 RBI were the second-most in Colorado team history by a rookie, trailing only Todd Helton's 29 in August 1998. He finished the month by collecting at least one hit in eight consecutive games, including a career-high four-hit performance on June 26th, vs. Kansas City.

Other rookies receiving votes included Ryan Church (.368, 4 HR, 13 RBI) of the Washington Nationals; Kelly Johnson (.267, 4 HR, 16 RBI), Ryan Langerhans (.325, 1 HR, 7 RBI) and Wilson Betemit (.325, 3 HR, 8 RBI) of the Atlanta Braves; D.J. Houton (4-1, 4.30 ERA, 26 SO) of the Los Angeles Dodgers; Willy Taveras (.343, 18 R, 4 RBI) of the Houston Astros; and Atkins' Colorado teammate, David Cortes (1-0, 0.84 ERA, 8 SO).

Garrett Atkins will receive a specially-designed trophy for being voted National League Rookie of the Month for June.
