As a very tight National League Wild Card race continues to develop, the New York Mets will return home for a critical homestand from August 16th-21st. The Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals will be visiting Shea Stadium for back-to-back three-game series that are sure to produce plenty of nail-biting action.

The Mets will continue their season-long series of Heritage and Theme Days, with several exciting events planned. The homestand kicks off with Beatles Tribute Night on Tuesday, August 16th. Monday, August 15th marks the 40th anniversary of the Beatles' historic concert at Shea Stadium, so prior to the game on Tuesday, the Beatles tribute band Strawberry Fields will recreate the 1965 event with a pre-game concert. The group will perform several Beatles favorites, including "Twist and Shout," "Ticket to Ride," and "A Hard Day's Night" prior to the 7:10 p.m. game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

New York will celebrate five Heritage Days over the course of the homestand, beginning with Polish-American Night on Wednesday, August 17th. Pakistani-American Night will take place on Thursday, August 18th at the game against Pittsburgh. As the Mets open an important series against the NL East rival Washington Nationals on Friday, August 19th, the team will celebrate Irish Night. Saturday, August 20th is Hispanic Heritage Night, which will feature a post-game concert by Aventura and Frank Reyes, presented by Budweiser. The homestand will wrap up with Jewish Heritage Day on Sunday, August 21st.

Saturday, August 20th is also Snausages Dog Day at the Park. Bring your dog to the park and enjoy the game in the Pepsi Picnic Area. Tickets to the Picnic Area are $30 and must be purchased in advance. There is also a $5 admission fee per dog. A portion of proceeds will benefit the North Shore Animal League. Space is limited in the Picnic Area. To purchase these tickets, visit, go to Group Tickets and then to the Group Ticket Window. The Sign-In ID is NSAL and the password is METS (ALL CAPS).

Several giveaways are planned for the homestand as well. On Friday, August 19th, the first 25,000 fans attending the 7:10 p.m. game against Washington will receive an Umbrella, courtesy of The Sports Authority. And on Sunday, August 21st, the first 25,000 fans will take home a 2005 Mets team photo, courtesy of Nikon.
