Finalists announced for the "DHL Presents the Major League Baseball Delivery Man of the Year Award"
Award recognizes the most outstanding relief pitcher of the season
Major League Baseball Properties, MLB Advanced Media and DHL today announced the 10 finalists for the inaugural "DHL Presents the Major League Baseball Delivery Man of the Year Award." From September 20 through October 9, fans will be able to vote from among 10 relievers to determine the "DHL Presents the Major League Baseball Delivery Man of the Year Award" winner. This officially-sanctioned Major League Baseball award will recognize the most outstanding relief pitcher of the year for the regular season. Voting will take place exclusively at MLB.com, the official Web site of Major League Baseball. The winner will be announced during the Major League Baseball postseason. As part of the online balloting program, DHL will award one lucky fan with a trip for two to a game of the 2005 World Series.

To create the ballot, an initial list of 15 relievers that have had terrific seasons to date was compiled by the editorial board of MLB.com. The 10 finalists were chosen from this list of nominees by a special Major League Baseball "yellow-ribbon" panel that consists of Hall of Fame pitcher Dennis Eckersley; Darryl Hamilton, former Major League outfielder and MLB Radio Host; Jerome Holtzman, the official MLB Historian and a member of the writer's wing of the Hall of Fame; Rick Sutcliffe, 1984 NL Cy Young Award winner, ESPN and MLB International broadcaster; and Bob Watson, Vice President, On-Field Operations, Major League Baseball.
Throughout the 2005 season, this "yellow-ribbon" panel selected the relief pitcher who gave each month's most dominant performance for his respective Major League Baseball Club. The 2005 winners of the "DHL Presents the Major League Baseball Delivery Man of the Month Award" include Jose Mesa (April), Trevor Hoffman (May), Chad Cordero (June), Brad Lidge (July) and Todd Jones (August).
This is the first year of a three-year sponsorship agreement which makes DHL the official "Official Express Delivery and Logistics Provider" of Major League Baseball and MLB.com. The partnership represents a multi-faceted program including exclusive shipping arrangements, these two new MLB sanctioned awards and a comprehensive MLB-themed advertising campaign.
