The New York Yankees announced today that they have signed left-handed pitcher Al Leiter to a one-year minor league contract and invited him and 19 other non-roster players to spring training. The 20 non-roster invitees bring the total number of players scheduled to report to 60.

Leiter, 40, posted a combined 7-12 record with a 6.13 ERA in 33 games with the Florida Marlins and the Yankees in 2005. He began the season with Florida, going 3-7 with a 6.64 ERA in 17 games (16 starts) before being designated for assignment on July 14. He was acquired by the Yankees with cash from the Florida Marlins for a player to be named later on July 16 and made his first start as a Yankee in 2005 on July 17 at Boston. In 16 games with the Yankees (10 starts), Leiter was 4-5 with a 5.49 ERA and held left-handed hitters to a .221 batting average (17-for-77).

Leiter made his Major-League debut with the Yankees in 1987 and also spent parts of the 1988 and 1989 seasons with the club before being traded to the Toronto Blue Jays for outfielder Jesse Barfield on April 30, 1989. Originally selected by the Yankees in the second round of the 1984 First-Year Player Draft, he owns a career record of 162-132 with a 3.80 ERA.

The remaining non-roster invitees include 10 pitchers, five catchers, three infielders and one outfielder.
