ARLINGTON, Tex. -- Texas Rangers officials today commended a decision by Orel Hershiser to accept an opportunity at ESPN where he will be a game and studio analyst beginning with the 2006 season.
"Orel is bringing his unique legacy and considerable charisma to the national stage," said Texas Rangers president Jeff Cogen. "He has a special ability to evaluate and explain a difficult part of the game---pitching. His passion for the game is contagious and baseball fans will definitely benefit from his insights and commentary."
Hershiser had served as the Rangers' pitching coach from June of 2002 to the end of the 2005 season and, most recently, had accepted a front-office job with the franchise.
