OAKLAND -- The Oakland A's today announced that they have placed right-handed pitcher Esteban Loaiza on the 15-day Disabled List retroactive to April 29 with a strained left trapezius muscle. To take his spot on the roster, the A's have recalled outfielder Bobby Kielty from Triple-A Sacramento.
Loaiza was 0-3 with an 8.35 ERA in four starts with the A's this year. Opponents were batting .385 and he had nine walks and six strikeouts in 18.1 innings. Loaiza had tossed five or more innings in just one of his four starts, including a low of 3.2 innings in his last start on April 23 against Los Angeles. He lasted just one inning on April 29 at Kansas City and walked six while allowing five runs in a game that was rained out and does not count in the statistics.
Kielty joins the A's for the second time this year as he went 0 for 4 in one game during his first stint from April 14 to 21. He batted .222 with a home run and four RBI in 10 games with Sacramento this year, including 0 for 6 with three walks in three games during his second stint.
