Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley, who currently has a 33-game hitting streak, and Chicago Cubs righthander Carlos Zambrano, who won a Major League-high six games, have been voted National League Player and Pitcher of the Month for July, respectively.

Utley collected at least one hit in all 25 of his games played this July and led the National League with 45 hits and 26 runs scored. The 2006 All-Star batted .425 (45-106) with 13 doubles, two triples, six home runs and 24 RBI. He accumulated a .755 slugging percentage, a .475 on-base percentage and added four stolen bases. Chase's current hitting streak dates back to June 23rd. It is the second longest streak of its kind in Phillies history, trailing only the 38-game streak assembled by his double play partner, Jimmy Rollins, in 2005-06. It is currently the seventh longest streak since Joe DiMaggio's record 56-game streak in 1941.

Zambrano started six games, pitched a total of 39.0 innings and allowed 30 hits, four home runs and 20 walks while striking out 40. The All-Star ace put together a 4.15 ERA, allowing 18 earned runs over the month. Carlos currently leads the National League in strikeouts (152), opponents batting average against (.199), winning percentage (.800), and is tied for the league in wins (12). A 2006 All-Star, the Venezuelan-born pitcher is in the midst of a nine-game winning streak dating back to June 5th.

Other pitchers receiving votes were Arizona's Brandon Webb, who went 4-1 with a 2.45 ERA and 35 strikeouts; Atlanta's John Smoltz, who went 4-0 with a 3.00 ERA and 39 strikeouts; Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter, who went 4-1 with a 3.12 ERA and 28 strikeouts; Houston's Roger Clemens, who went 2-2 with a 2.00 ERA and 33 strikeouts; Colorado's Jeff Francis, who went 3-2 with a 1.85 ERA and 22 strikeouts; Florida's Scott Olsen, who went 3-0 with a 2.48 ERA and 33 strikeouts; and New York's Billy Wagner, who went 0-0 with a 1.46 ERA and notched seven saves.
