Josh Barfield of the Padres voted National League Rookie of the Month for July

San Diego Padres second baseman Josh Barfield, who led all National League rookies with a .400 (40-
100) batting average, has been voted the N.L. Rookie of the Month for July.
Barfield also led all N.L. rookies with 40 hits during the month, setting a Padres rookie record. He
scored 16 runs, hit eight doubles, one triple, three home runs and collected 13 RBI. Josh put together a
.590 slugging percentage and a .435 on-base percentage while stealing seven bases. The son of former
Major League outfielder Jesse Barfield collected at least one hit in 21 of his 26 games played this month.
Other rookies receiving votes included the Dodgers' Andre Ethier (.362, 5 HR, 18 RBI); the Marlins'
Scott Olsen (3-0, 2.48 ERA, 33 SO) and Anibal Sanchez (3-1, 5.19 ERA, 18 SO); the Nationals' Ryan
Zimmerman (.333, 3 HR, 19 RBI); the Giants' Eliezer Alfonzo (.315, 6 HR, 16 RBI); the Mets' John Maine
(1-2, 1.63 ERA, 21 SO); the Phillies' Chris Coste (.372, 3 HR, 13 RBI); and the Brewers' Prince Fielder
(.303, 3 HR, 13 RBI).
Josh Barfield will receive a specially-designed award for being voted National League Rookie of the
Month for July.
