BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox today recalled righthander Jermaine Van Buren from Triple-A Pawtucket of the International League. Van Buren will wear #46 and be in uniform for this afternoon's game with the New York Yankees at Fenway Park.

To make room for Van Buren, righthanded pitcher Rudy Seanez has been designated for assignment.

Executive Vice President/General Manager Theo Epstein made the announcement.

Van Buren begins his fifth stint with the Red Sox this season. The righthander is 1-0 with a 10.80 ERA (14 ER/11.2 IP) in nine relief appearances for Boston in his four previous spans (April 14-22; May 24-June 6; June 13-19; July 18-30).

With Pawtucket this season, the 26-year-old is 4-0 with a team high 13 saves and a 3.05 ERA (13 ER/38.1 IP) in 28 relief appearances. Van Buren was acquired from the Chicago Cubs on December 1, 2005.

Seanez is 2-1 with a 4.82 ERA in 41 relief appearances with Boston in 2006. The 12-year major league veteran is 29-21 in 421 career major league games
