Chris Duncan of Cardinals voted National League Rookie of the Month for August
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Chris Duncan, who led all N.L. rookies with nine home runs, has been
voted National League Rookie of the Month for August.
Chris led all N.L. rookies with a .747 slugging percentage. He hit .361 (30-83) with 20 runs, five
doubles, 14 RBI and a .438 on-base percentage over 25 games played for the N.L. Central-leading
Cardinals. The 6'5" left-handed hitter put together a career-high nine-game hitting streak, spanning
August 12-22. The son of Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan batted .531 and added four home runs
over that time.
Other rookies receiving votes included the Dodgers' Chad Billingsley (3-0, 1.50 ERA, 25 SO) and
Takashi Saito (2-0, 0.63 ERA, 7 SV); the Phillies' Cole Hamels (4-2, 2.43 ERA, 37 SO); the Marlins' Hanley
Ramirez (.327, 3 HR, 11 RBI); the Diamondbacks' Stephen Drew (.345, 2 HR, 14 RBI); the Padres' Cla
Meredith (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 11 SO); and the Giants' Matt Cain (3-2, 2.65 ERA, 47 SO).
Chris Duncan will receive a specially designed award for being voted National League Rookie of the
Month for August.
