Boof Bonser named American League Rookie of the Month

Minnesota Twins pitcher Boof Bonser has been named American League Rookie of the Month for
September. This is Bonser's first Rookie of the Month honors of the season.
In six games, Bonser went 4-1 with a 2.63 ERA, 37.2 innings pitched and 30 strikeouts. The 24-yearold
produced quality starts in each of his wins during the month: September 4 against Tampa Bay (6.1 IP,
ER, 5 H, 6 SO); September 9 against Detroit (7.0 IP, ER, 5 H, 5 SO); September 20 against Boston (7.0
IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 5 SO); and September 25 against Kansas City (6.2 IP, ER, 2 H, 5 SO). Bonser finished the
2006 season at 7-6 along with a 4.22 ERA, 100.1 innings pitched and 84 strikeouts.
Other AL rookies who received consideration were Cleveland first baseman Ryan Garko (.271, 3 HR,
25 RBI); Kansas City first baseman Ryan Shealy (.253, 4 HR, 18 RBI); and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
pitcher Joe Saunders (3-1, 4.64 ERA, 25 SO).
Bonser will receive a specially designed trophy as the American League Rookie of the Month.
