MILWAUKEE -- The Chicago Cubs today placed right-handed pitcher Angel Guzman on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 2, with a strained right elbow. In corresponding roster moves, Chicago has selected right-handed pitcher Sean Gallagher from Double-A Tennessee and transferred right-handed pitcher Roberto Novoa to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Gallagher on the 40-man roster.

Gallagher, 21, was selected by the Cubs in the 12th round of the 2004 draft. He has gone 33-14 in 76 minor league contests (75 starts) - including a 7-2 mark with a 3.39 ERA (23 ER/61.0 IP) in 11 starts this season at Tennessee. He currently boasts a five-game winning streak for the Smokies, producing a 2.95 ERA (12 ER/36.2 IP) in six starts during the span.

Gallagher, who will wear number 36, is looking to make his major league debut and is available for today's game in Milwaukee against the Brewers at 1:05 p.m. CT.

Guzman, 25, is in his second stint with Chicago this season and has gone 0-1 with a 3.56 ERA (12 ER/30.1 IP) in 12 appearances (3 starts). Has seen time in the starting rotation, as well as the bullpen, for the Cubs, posting a 3.60 ERA (6 ER/15.0 IP) in nine relief appearances compared to a 3.52 ERA (6 ER/15.1 IP) in three starts. With Iowa, Guzman went 0-2 with a 12.19 ERA (14 ER/10.1 IP) in three starts.

Novoa, 27, has been on the disabled list since March 31 with a right humeral head fracture. He posted a 2-1 record with a 4.26 ERA (36 ER/76.0 IP) in 66 relief appearances for the Cubs last season, recording a career-best 53 strikeouts.
