Alfonso Soriano voted Sharp Presents the National League Player of the Month for June

After leading the National League with eleven home runs last month, All-Star Alfonso Soriano of the
Chicago Cubs has been voted the Sharp Presents the National League Player of the Month for June.
Soriano hit .336 (41-122), with seven doubles, two triples, 18 RBI and 24 runs during the month. The
31-year old leftfielder led the N.L. with 41 hits and finished tied for the league lead with 20 extra-base hits. He added 12 multi-hit performances and finished with a .697 slugging percentage. Alfonso hit three home runs in
his first three at-bats against Atlanta on June 8th. He homered in three consecutive games twice during the
month, June 2-4 and June 22-24. The right-handed slugger recorded the third five-hit game of his career which
included a three-run home run at Milwaukee on June 4th. This marks the third time Soriano has been voted a
Player of the Month. He won the award in April and September of 2003 when he was a member of the New York
Yankees.
Other players receiving votes were Ryan Braun (.382 with 6 home runs and 21 RBI) and Corey Hart,
(.336 with 9 home runs and 21 RBI), of the Brewers; Ryan Howard, (.280 with 10 home runs and 27 RBI) and
Chase Utley, (.386 with 6 home runs and 23 RBI), of the Phillies; Ken Griffey, Jr. of the Reds, (.290 with 10 home
runs and 19 RBI); Matt Holliday (.355 with 3 home runs and 19 RBI) and Garrett Atkins (.305 with 8 home runs
and 25 RBI) of the Rockies; and Dmitri Young of the Nationals, who hit .377 with 3 home runs and 13 RBI.
For setting the highest definition of excellence, Sharp, the presenting sponsor of the National League

AQUOS is the "Official High-Definition Television of Major League Baseball." Alfonso Soriano also will receive a
specially designed trophy to mark his achievement.
