OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Oakland A's today reinstated designated hitter Mike Piazza from the 15-day Disabled List and optioned right-handed pitcher Shane Komine to Triple-A Sacramento.
Piazza was placed on the 15-day Disabled List retroactive to May 3 with a sprained right shoulder. He injured the shoulder in the sixth inning on May 2 at Boston in a collision with Mike Lowell at third base on a fielders choice. Piazza was sent to Sacramento on a rehab assignment on July 13 and went 7 for 17 (.412) in three games, all at designated hitter. He was transferred to Single-A Stockton on Tuesday and went 3 for 9 (.333) with a pair of home runs in three more games at designated hitter. Piazza was batting .282 with one home run and eight RBI in 26 games with Oakland before the injury.
Komine was 0-0 with a 4.70 ERA in two relief appearances with the A's. He was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on July 3 for his second stint with Oakland this year and did not pitch during his first stint from June 18 to 21.
