Detroit's Magglio Ordonez named Sharp Presents the American League Player of the Month for August

Detroit Tigers outfielder Magglio Ordoñez has been named Sharp Presents the American League
Player of the Month for August.
In 29 games, the six-time A.L. All-Star batted .393 with 46 hits and 31 RBI in 117 at-bats. He was
second in the league with a .692 slugging percentage. He hit 10 home runs, five doubles and scored 24 runs
overall. He walked 11 times and posted a .445 on-base percentage. During a four-game home series against
the Athletics, he went 9-for-16 with three home runs and 10 RBI, including a 2-for-3 game with two home
runs and four RBI. On the season, Ordoñez is hitting .355 with 26 home runs and 120 runs batted in. This is
his second career Player of the Month Award (previous: July 2003).
Others receiving votes were Vladimir Guerrero (.353, .664 SLG, 11 2B, 8 HR, 28 RBI) and Garret
Anderson (.283, 8 2B, 6 HR, 30 RBI) of the Angels; Raul Ibañez (.374, 6 2B, 9 HR, 22 RBI) of the Mariners;
Mike Lowell (.393, 9 2B, 2 HR, 21 RBI) of the Red Sox; Jason Bartlett (.349, 5 2B, 5 3B, 2 HR, 14 RBI) of the
Twins, and Carl Crawford (.388, 8 2B, 3 HR, 18 RBI, 11 SB) of the Devil Rays. Crawford became just the sixth
player in the last 50 years to post 50 hits and 10 steals in one month.
For setting the highest definition of excellence, Sharp, the presenting sponsor of the American League
Player of the Month Award presents Magglio Ordoñez with a LC-52D92U 52" Sharp AQUOS LCD-TV. Sharp
AQUOS is the "Official High-Definition Television of Major League Baseball." Magglio Ordoñez also will receive
a specially designed trophy to mark his achievement.
