Peoria, Ariz. -- The San Diego Padres announced on Saturday that they have released outfielder Jeff DaVanon and catcher Robert Fick. Executive vice president/general manager Kevin Towers made the announcement.
Both players signed Minor League contracts with the Padres during the winter and were non-roster invitees to Spring Training. DaVanon, 34, batted .290 (9-for-31) with one double and one RBI in 13 Spring Training games. Fick, 34, hit .130 (3-for-23) with a double and one RBI over 11 games.
With today's moves, the Padres now have 40 players in Major League camp, including 35 players from the 40-man roster and five non-roster invitees.
