ARLINGTON -- The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has made the following roster moves:
  • Reinstated right-handed pitcher Kevin Millwood from the 15-day disabled list
  • Recalled infielder Travis Metcalf from Triple-A Oklahoma
  • Optioned right-handed pitcher Kameron Loe to Triple-A Oklahoma
  • Optioned infielder German Duran to Triple-A Oklahoma
  • Outrighted right-handed pitcher Franklyn German to Triple-A Oklahoma
Millwood, who is scheduled to start tomorrow night's series and homestand opener against the Oakland A's, was placed on the disabled list on May 11 with a strained right groin. He suffered the injury during his last start on May 10 vs. Oakland, throwing just 12 pitches in that outing. He threw a simulated game on Saturday in Cleveland, and had a bullpen session Tuesday in St. Petersburg. The club's Opening Day starter has gone 2-3 with a 4.88 ERA in 9 games/starts for Texas this season.

Metcalf will be in his second stint with the Rangers this season, as he was also with the club from May 8-13. He opened the season on the 15-day disabled list with a torn left hamstring suffered during a spring training game on March 7 against Milwaukee in Maryvale. He did not play any games on an official rehab assignment before he was activated on May 8, going 0-for-1 in one game with Texas. After being optioned to Oklahoma on May 14, Metcalf has batted .238 (10-42) with 3 doubles and 8 RBI in 11 games for the RedHawks.

Metcalf made his major league debut last season, spending roughly half the year with the Rangers. He had a .255 average with 5 home runs and 21 RBI in 57 games for Texas in 2007.

Duran began the season at Triple-A, but had his contract purchased by Texas on April 17. In what was his major league debut, he batted .193 with a home run and 4 RBI over 26 games for the Rangers. Duran, who went to high school in Fort Worth, batted .250 with 2 doubles, 3 triples, and one RBI in 10 games for Oklahoma prior to joining the Rangers.

Loe was recalled on May 21, and was 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA (2 ER/4.2 IP) in 2 relief appearances for Texas. He began the season with Oklahoma, going 2-3 with a 5.14 ERA (16 ER/28.0 IP) in 16 relief appearances.

Franklyn German was designated for assignment on May 21 and cleared waivers prior to today's move. Since he has a prior outright, German can refuse this assignment to Oklahoma, and has 72 hours to inform the club of his intentions.

With these moves, the Rangers still have 38 players on the club's 40-man roster.
