Carlos Quentin of the Chicago White Sox was selected by fans in an online vote as the winner of the "Major League Baseball Clutch Performer of the Month Presented by Pepsi" for May, it was announced today. The award recognizes the player who performed his best when the game was on the line. Pepsi has been the "Official Soft Drink of Major League Baseball" since 1997.

The "MLB Clutch Performer of the Month Presented by Pepsi" winner is selected by the fans from a list of six nominees chosen by a special editorial panel from MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball. During the first week of each month, fans can visit a microsite powered by MLB.com specifically created for the Clutch Performer Platform, pepsiclutch.mlb.com, to vote for the nominee they believe was the best Clutch Performer during the previous month.

In 29 games during May, Quentin hit .290 (31-for-107) with seven home runs and 27 RBI. The 25-year old outfielder collected five doubles and 15 runs scored while posting a .533 slugging percentage and a .366 on-base percentage. Carlos compiled 10 multi-hit games, including two, three-hit games, and seven multi-RBI contests. On May 15th at Angel Stadium against the Angels, Quentin broke a 1-1 tie in the eighth inning with his first career grand slam, leading the White Sox to a 6-1 victory that ended a three-game losing streak. On May 25th, Quentin again guided the White Sox over the Angels, going 3-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI, including a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to give Chicago a 3-2 victory. The former first round pick out of Stanford was acquired in December by the White Sox in exchange for infielder Chris Carter.

At the conclusion of the season, fans will have the opportunity to vote on the "Major League Baseball Clutch Performer of the Year Presented by Pepsi" award winner at MLB.com and the award will be presented during the Major League Baseball postseason. Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees was named the inaugural recipient of the "2007 MLB Clutch Performer of the Year Presented by Pepsi."
