Brewers sign 2008 supplemental first round pick Jake Odorizzi

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Brewers today signed RHP Jake Odorizzi, who was selected by Milwaukee as a first round supplemental draft choice (#32 overall) in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, it was announced today by Jack Zduriencik, Vice President - Special Assistant to the General Manager for Player Personnel.

Odorizzi went 14-0 with three saves and had a 0.08 ERA (1er/89.2ip) in his senior season at Highland (IL) High School. He recorded 146 strikeouts compared to just six walks and helped lead Highland HS to their first ever state championship earlier this month.

The Brewers have now signed 30 players from the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, including eight of the team's first 10 draft selections. Additional recent signings include RHP Cody Adams (2nd round, #62), CF Logan Shafer (3rd round, #94) and Big 12 Player of the Year SS Jose Duran (6th round, #188).

RHP Robert Wooten, drafted in the 13th round (398th overall) from the University of North Carolina, is currently participating in the College World Series. (North Carolina and LSU will resume play this evening, beginning at 6pm CT, from yesterday's suspended game. North Carolina leads 2-0 in the first inning).
