Hanley Ramirez of the Florida Marlins has been named the Sharp Presents the National League Player of the Month for June.

The shortstop hit .298 (34-114), with six doubles, a triple, 10 home runs, 13 RBI and 27 runs scored in June. Ramirez, who added 13 walks and was 7-for-7 in stolen base attempts, led the National League in home runs, runs scored and total bases (72) over the month. The 24-year-old recorded multi-home run games on June 4th at Atlanta and June 8th vs. Cincinnati. On June 29th vs. Arizona and June 30th vs. Washington, Ramirez hit consecutive game-tying home runs in the ninth inning with the Marlins going on to win both games. The last player to hit game-tying homers in the ninth inning on back-to-back days was Gary Gaetti of the Twins on May 17-18, 1989. Hanley put together a nine-game hitting streak from June 3rd-11th, during which he hit .382 (13-34) with six home runs and nine RBI. Entering the final week of fan voting for the 79th All-Star Game, Ramirez led N.L. shortstops with 1,483,875 votes. Hanley is the first Marlin since Jeff Conine in 1995 to win monthly honors.

Other players receiving votes were Ramirez's teammate, Jorge Cantu (.287, 6 HR, 21 RBI); Mark Teixeira (.287, 9 HR, 23 RBI) of the Atlanta Braves; Brad Hawpe (.316, 8 HR, 17 RBI) of the Colorado Rockies; Carlos Beltran (.286, 7 HR, 22 RBI) of the New York Mets; James Loney (.362, 8 2B, 10 RBI) of the Los Angeles Dodgers; Lance Berkman (.319, 5 HR, 21 RBI) of the Houston Astros; Jim Edmonds (.319, 6 HR, 19 RBI) of the Chicago Cubs; and Cristian Guzman (.331, 6 2B, 7 RBI) of the Washington Nationals.

For setting the highest definition of excellence, Sharp, the presenting sponsor of the National League Player of the Month Award, presents Hanley Ramirez with a 52" AQUOS®. Sharp AQUOS is the "Official High-Definition Television of Major League Baseball." Hanley also will receive a specially designed trophy to mark his achievement.
