Indians exercise 2009 club option for INF Jamey Carroll
Will return for his second season with the Indians next season; made 84 starts between second & third base in 2008

CLEVELAND, OH -- The Cleveland Indians today announced the team has exercised the 2009 Club Option for INF JAMEY CARROLL.

Carroll did an excellent job in a variety of roles in his first season with the Indians. For the season he hit .277 (96-347) coupled with an on-base % of .355, 13 doubles, 4 triples, 1HR & 36 RBI in 113 games. He also scored 60 runs and stole 7 bases in 10 attempts. Over his last 87 games from May 18 thru the end of the season he hit .298 (86-289) w/a .363 on-base %, collecting his 500th career Major League hit on Sept. 23 at Boston. He ended the campaign with a season/career-high 9 game hitting streak (11-36, .306).

Jamey was acquired from the Colorado Rockies on December 8, 2007 for minor league RHP Sean Smith. He owns a 7-year Major League career batting average of .273 (506-1856) with a .351 on-base %, 82 doubles, 17 triples, 148 RBI and 316 runs in 693 games.
