D-backs acquire Scott Schoeneweis from Mets
Arizona sends Connor Robertson to New York in trade

(PHOENIX, AZ) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired left-handed pitcher Scott Schoeneweis and cash considerations from the New York Mets in exchange for right-handed pitcher Connor Robertson, as announced by D-backs' Executive Vice President and General Manager Josh Byrnes.
"We feel that Scott will help balance our bullpen," said Byrnes. "Given his success against left-handed hitters over the last several seasons, he provides us another weapon late in games."
Schoeneweis, 35, pitched in 73 games last season for the Mets, going 2-6 with a 3.34 ERA with one save and 15 holds. He was tied for seventh in the National League among left-handers in holds last season, while left-handed batters hit .178 (18-for-101) against him, the seventh-lowest average among all Major League relief pitchers (minimum 100 at-bats) and second-lowest among left-handers.
Schoeneweis has seen action in 517 games (93 starts) over parts of 10 Major League seasons, going 45-55 with a 4.91 ERA with nine saves and 84 holds while playing for the Angels, White Sox, Blue Jays, Reds and Mets. His 84 holds rank 12th among active left-handed pitchers. Over his career, Schoeneweis has limited left-handed batters to a .224 average, allowing only one home run from 2003-07.
Schoeneweis, a 2002 World Series Champion with the Angels, has appeared in 294 games since 2005, ranking fourth in the Majors and first among left-handers. D-backs relief pitcher Chad Qualls leads all Major League relievers with 314 appearances during that same timeframe.
Robertson, 27, appeared in nine games for the D-backs during the 2008 season, going 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA. He spent the majority of the season with Tucson after being acquired on Dec. 14, 2007, from Oakland with right-handed pitcher Dan Haren.
