Orioles name Minor League managers, coaches and staff
The Orioles today announced the coaching staffs for their eight minor league affiliates for the 2009 season.
GARY ALLENSON will manage Triple-A Norfolk for the third season after guiding the Tides to a 64-78 record in 2008. The 2009 season will be his fourth season in the organization. MIKE GRIFFIN, who pitched for the 1987 Orioles, will serve as pitching coach after his 2008 Bowie hurlers posted a 3.54 ERA. DALLAS WILLIAMS will begin his fourth year as the Tides' field coach.
At Double-A Bowie, 2008 Eastern League Manager of the Year BRAD KOMMINSK returns for his second campaign with the Baysox. Komminsk led the Baysox to an 84-58 record and post-season berth in his first season managing in Bowie. LARRY McCALL, in his 20th year in the Orioles organization, will serve as pitching coach. MOE HILL returns for his fifth year as coach at Bowie and his seventh season in the Orioles farm system.
18-year major league veteran RICHIE HEBNER returns to manage at Class-A Frederick after taking over managerial duties for the Keys mid-season last year. Field coach J.D. CANNON returns for his third season in the organization and pitching coach KENNIE STEENSTRA joins Hebner's staff after four seasons in Delmarva.
Class-A Delmarva will be managed by ORLANDO GOMEZ, who will be in his 14th season as a minor league manager. Pitching coach BLAINE BEATTY will join Gomez after spending the last three seasons in Frederick. Former Orioles infielder RYAN MINOR returns for his second season as Delmarva's field coach.

GARY KENDALL, who managed short-season Class-A Aberdeen to a 36-39 record in 2008, returns to guide the Ironbirds in 2009. The Baltimore native is 268-286 in five seasons as a manager in the organization and will be joined by Orioles Hall of Famer SCOTT McGREGOR, who returns to Aberdeen as pitching coach for a second straight season and his seventh overall in the Orioles' system. CESAR DEVAREZ will be in his fifth season as field coach for the IronBirds and will be joined on the bench in 2009 by JESUS ALFARO, who is in his 15th season in the Orioles organization.
Advanced Rookie-level Bluefield will be piloted by EINAR DIAZ. The former major league catcher was a field coach for the Gulf Coast League Orioles in 2008. Pitching coach TROY MATTES and field coach JIM SAUL both return to Bluefield for their third season there.
RAMON SAMBO will manage the Gulf Coast League Orioles after guiding them to a 32-34 record in 2007. Sambo spent the 2008 season as manager at Delmarva. Pitching coach CALVIN MADURO returns for his second season with the Gulf Coast League affiliate.
MIGUEL JABALERA will manage the Orioles' entry in the Dominican Summer League and will be assisted by pitching coaches ROBERT PEREZ and DIONIS PASCUAL. Field coaches BENNY ADAMES, RAMON LUBO and FRANCIS NUNEZ will also assist Jabalera.

BRIAN GRAHAM returns for his second season as the Orioles' Coordinator of Instruction for Minor Leagues. Graham had a previous stint with the Orioles in 2000, when he served as the Orioles' offensive and defensive coach under manager MIKE HARGROVE.
DAVE SCHMIDT, in his 12th season in the organization, returns as minor league pitching coordinator, a role he has held for four seasons. LARRY JASTER, in his 13th season in the Orioles organization, returns for his second year as pitching coordinator for Florida operations. JULIO VINAS returns for his eighth season with the Orioles and his fifth season as minor league hitting coordinator.
DON WERNER (catching), BUTCH DAVIS (outfield and baserunning), DENNY WALLING (hitting) and ALEX ARIAS (infield) all return as roving instructors.
LEN JOHNSTON enters his 33rd season with the Orioles organization, returning as Minor League Camp Coordinator for the 18th straight year. DAVE WALKER will begin his sixth year as Minor League Medical Coordinator (his 15th season in the Orioles farm system). The Orioles have added MANNY LOPEZ as the Latin American Medical Coordinator. JOE HOGARTY returns for his second season as Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coordinator and his sixth in the Orioles organization. JAIME RODRIGUEZ returns for his 36th season as Minor League Facilities Coordinator, overseeing the grounds for the Orioles' affiliates.
