Right-hander Zack Greinke of the Kansas City Royals and second baseman Ian Kinsler of the Texas Rangers have been named
the American League Co-Players of the Week presented by Bank of America for the period ending April 19th. Bank of
America is the Official Bank of Major League Baseball and the only place where you can get your favorite Club logo on checks, check
cards or credit cards. For more information on MLB© banking, visit bankofamerica.com/MLB.
Greinke went 2-0 for the first place Kansas City Royals, recording a 0.00 ERA over 14.0 innings pitched in two starts last week. On
April 18th, the 25-year-old right-hander pitched his first career complete-game shutout while recording 10 strikeouts to beat Texas 2-0
at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Zack compiled 19 strikeouts in his two outings last week, and now leads the American League with 26.
Greinke, the sixth selection overall in the 2002 First-Year Player Draft, has notched 20.0 scoreless innings while posting a 3-0 record on
the season. He currently holds a 34-inning scoreless streak dating back to last season. This marks Zack's first career weekly award.
In six games last week, Kinsler led the American League with a .556 (15-for-27) average, 15 hits, six stolen bases and 27 total
bases. The All-Star second baseman collected five multi-hit games along with a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base
percentage. On April 15th, Ian hit for the cycle for the first time in his career, going 6-for-6 with two singles, two doubles, a triple
and a homerun. He became just the fourth player in Rangers history to accomplish the feat, and the first Major League player to
finish with six hits in a nine-inning game in which he hit for a cycle. Kinsler leads the Majors with 23 hits, seven doubles, 44 total
bases and a .880 slugging percentage. This marks Ian's second career weekly award (previous: 4/16/07).
Other noteworthy performances for the week included Carlos Quentin of the Chicago White Sox with a league-leading five home
runs and Carlos Pena of the Tampa Bay Rays with a league-leading 12 RBI. Also considered was Jason Kubel of the Minnesota Twins
who also hit for a cycle this past week while compiling 10 RBI. Other nominees this week were Ramon Santiago of the Detroit Tigers
with 11 RBI and Mark DeRosa of the Cleveland Indians with 10 RBI.
Tourneau, the world's largest watch store, will supply Zack Greinke and Ian Kinsler each with a luxury Swiss Tourneau
timepiece, suitably engraved, in recognition of their achievement as the A.L. Co-Players of the Week presented by Bank of America.
