A pair of All-Star first basemen, Ryan Howard of the Philadelphia Phillies and Adrian Gonzalez of the San Diego Padres, have been named National League Co-Players of the Week presented by Bank of America for the period ending May 31st. Bank of America is the Official Bank of Major League Baseball and the only place where you can get your favorite Club logo on checks, check cards or credit cards. For more information on MLB® banking, visit bankofamerica.com/MLB.

Last week, Howard and Gonzalez tied for the National League lead with four home runs, 10 RBI and a 1.000 slugging percentage. The 29-year-old Howard hit .333 (8-24) with two doubles, a triple and an N.L.-best 24 total bases. On May 25th vs. Florida, Ryan connected for two home runs. On May 30th vs. Washington, the 2006 N.L. Most Valuable Player recorded his 19th career multi-homer game and his eighth career grand slam, surpassing Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt for the most in Phillies history. The grand slam was Howard's third of the season. This marks Ryan's fourth career weekly honor (previous: 9/30/07, 7/22/07 and 9/4/06).

Gonzalez posted a .500 on-base percentage and homered in four of six games, including three-run homers in consecutive games on May 30th-31st at Colorado. His shot on Sunday was the 27-year-old's Major-League-leading 20th homer. Overall, Adrian drove in three runs on three different occasions during the week. This marks Adrian's second career weekly honor (previously won: 7/23/06).

Candidates last week included Atlanta's Brian McCann (.389, 7 H, 1 RBI); Florida's Sean West (7.0 IP, 1.29 ERA, 4 H); Gary Sheffield (.438, 2 HR, 8 RBI) of the New York Mets; Philadelphia's Brad Lidge (4 SV, 0.00 ERA, 5 SO); Washington's Josh Willingham (.444, 3 HR, 3 RBI); Reed Johnson (.474, 2 HR, 6 RBI) of the Chicago Cubs; Cincinnati's Bronson Arroyo (1-0, 1.00 ERA, 3 SO); Houston's Edwin Maysonet (.529, 1 HR, 5 RBI); Milwaukee's Yovani Gallardo (1-0, 0.68 ERA, 15 SO); Pittsburgh's Freddy Sanchez (.650, 13 H, 4 RBI); Albert Pujols (.444, 2 HR, 4 RBI) of the St. Louis Cardinals; Arizona's Gerardo Parra (.385, 1 3B, 8 RBI); Colorado's Clint Barmes (.364, 1 HR, 3 RBI); Matt Kemp (.407, 2 HR, 5 RBI) of the Los Angeles Dodgers; San Diego's Scott Hairston (.348, 2 HR, 3 RBI); and San Francisco's Brian Wilson (3 SV, 0.00 ERA, 2 H).
