Pitcher Brad Thompson of the St. Louis Cardinals has received a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing a pitch in the head area of David Wright of the New York Mets during the bottom of the sixth inning of the Wednesday, August 5th game at New York's Citi Field. Bob Watson, Vice President of On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.

Thompson's suspension had been scheduled to begin on Friday, when the Cardinals begin a series against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. However, Thompson has elected to file an appeal. Thus, the discipline issued to him will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
