Fans given larger role in voting process for 2009 Sharp presents the Hank Aaron Award
Award recognizes most outstanding offensive performers in each league as chosen by the fans

Major League Baseball Properties, MLB Advanced Media and Sharp Electronics Corporation today announced a new fan balloting process to select the winners of the 2009 Sharp presents the Hank Aaron Award. This is the seventh consecutive year that Major League Baseball fans will have a voice in selecting the award winners, but this year the fans will have an even greater role in the voting process.

Voting will take place exclusively at, the official Web site of Major League Baseball. The Sharp Presents the Hank Aaron Award, officially sanctioned by Major League Baseball, recognizes the most outstanding offensive performer in each League. In recent years, fans voted for the winners among a small list of finalists; this year, fans will have a larger voice in the vote by selecting both the finalists and the ultimate winners of the award. Beginning today and continuing through September 15, fans will have the opportunity to select one finalist out of three nominees from each MLB Club. Once those 30 finalists have been selected fans will be able to vote for one American League and one National League winner, from September 16 through September 30. The winners of the 2009 Sharp presents the Hank Aaron Award will be announced during a press conference prior to Game 4 of the 2009 World Series.

In addition to voting, fans can also enter the Sharp MLB Hank Aaron Award sweepstakes for a chance to win a trip for four to the 2009 World Series, including access to be on the field during the award ceremony and the press conference. The Sharp presents the Hank Aaron Award will be supported through a promotional campaign, which will include in-stadium announcements and online advertising.

"The new voting process will give our fans an even greater voice in selecting the best offensive players of the year."

Past winners of the Award include: Manny Ramirez and Sammy Sosa (1999); Carlos Delgado and Todd Helton (2000); Alex Rodriguez and Barry Bonds (2001, 2002); Alex Rodriguez and Albert Pujols (2003); Manny Ramirez and Barry Bonds (2004); David Ortiz and Andruw Jones (2005); Derek Jeter and Ryan Howard (2006); Alex Rodriguez and Prince Fielder (2007); and Aramis Ramirez and Kevin Youklis (2008).

The Sharp Presents the Hank Aaron Award was introduced in 1999 to honor the 25th Anniversary of Aaron breaking Babe Ruth's all-time home run record, and, at that time, was the first major award introduced by Major League Baseball in more than 25 years.

Sharp is in its third year of a multi-year sponsorship agreement, highlighted by Sharp AQUOS as the "Official High-Definition Television of Major League Baseball." Sharp is also the presenting sponsor of the American and National League Player of the Month Awards.
