Colorado Rockies left fielder Seth Smith has been named National League Player of the Week presented by Bank of America for the period ending September 6th. Bank of America is the Official Bank of Major League Baseball and the only place where you can get your favorite Club logo on checks, check cards or credit cards. In six games last week, Smith led the Majors with a .542 (13-24) batting average, a 1.250 slugging percentage, 10 runs scored and 30 total bases. The 26-year-old also tied for baseball's top mark with five doubles, four home runs and 10 RBI while also posting a .607 on-base percentage. On September 4th, Seth collected a career-high four hits and drove in three runs en route to a 5-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Coors Field. On September 6th, the left-handed slugger hit a two-run blast and a three-run shot for his first career multi-homer game. Smith's five-RBI effort marked a career high in a 13-5 Colorado victory, capping a three-game sweep over the D-backs. Entering play today, the former University of Mississippi reserve quarterback behind Eli Manning is hitting .318 with career highs in doubles (17), triples (4), home runs (15), runs batted in (48) and runs (55). This marks Seth's first career weekly award.

Other noteworthy performances for the week include closer Francisco Cordero, whose five saves and seven strikeouts helped the Cincinnati Reds secure a seven-game winning streak last week, and Milwaukee Brewers infielder Casey McGehee, who tied Smith for the N.L.-lead with 10 RBI. Also considered were Florida Marlins rookie left fielder Chris Coghlan, who led the Majors with 15 hits, and his Marlins teammate Jorge Cantú, who collected 14 hits and eight RBI. A notable performance on the mound included Smith's teammate Jorge De La Rosa, who posted a perfect 2-0 mark with a 1.64 ERA and 10 strikeouts.

Tourneau, the world's largest watch store, will award Seth Smith with a luxury Swiss Timepiece, suitably engraved, in recognition of his accomplishment as the National League Player of the Week presented by Bank of America.
