Ryan Franklin of the St. Louis Cardinals has been selected as the winner of the Major League Baseball Delivery Man of the Month Award for August, it was announced today. This Major League Baseball award recognizes the most outstanding relief pitcher during each month of the regular season as voted on by a panel from Major League Baseball.

Franklin appeared in 12 games during August and did not permit a run while going a perfect 11-for-11 in save opportunities. The 36-year-old right-hander allowed just six hits with six walks and four strikeouts over 11.0 innings pitched, and had seven outings in which he did not allow a hit. Ryan, who was named an All-Star for the first time in his career this season, recorded saves in three consecutive contests on August 23rd at San Diego and August 25th-26th against the Houston Astros at Busch Stadium. In six appearances at Busch during the month, Franklin collected six saves and surrendered just three hits and three walks with one strikeout over 6.0 innings pitched. Through the end of August, the Fort Smith, Arkansas native had compiled a 1.02 ERA and converted 26 of 27 save opportunities dating back to May 20th, holding hitters to a .202 batting average during that span. Franklin, who is 2-2 on the season with 17 walks and 36 strikeouts in 54.0 innings pitched, leads the National League with 37 saves, and ranks second among Major League relievers with a 1.67 ERA. This is Ryan's first career Delivery Man of the Month Award.
