Minnesota Twins announce plans for inaugural Target Field Home Opener
Twins to play historic inaugural Home Opener at Target Field against the Boston Red Sox
tickets for any Major League Baseball game

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Twins today announced plans for the historic inaugural Home Opener at Target Field against the Boston Red Sox on Monday, April 12 at 3:10 p.m. All fans in attendance will receive an Opening Day Homer Hanky and an Opening Day 2010 commemorative certificate. The Twins also plan several special events prior to the start of the game and will open the gates three hours before first pitch to allow fans to get to the ballpark in plenty of time to enjoy the pregame festivities.

Monday, April 12 - Twins vs. Boston Red Sox
  • 11:30 a.m. - The Twins unveil the Kirby Puckett bronze legend statue on Target Plaza, created by local artist Bill Mack
  • 12:00 p.m. - Gates open - legendary Twins players will ceremonially open their respective gate (Harmon Killebrew at Gate 3, Tony Oliva at Gate 6, Kent Hrbek at Gate 14, Rod Carew at Gate 29 and Kirby Puckett, Jr. at Gate 34)
Other pregame events include, in this order:
  • Twins batting practice
  • Grounds crew preps the field
  • Twins alumni raise the championship pennants in left field including Jim Kaat (1965 ALCS flag), Jim Perry (1969 central division flag), Bert Blyleven (1970 central division flag), Frank Viola (1987 World Series flag), Jack Morris (1991 World Series flag), Eddie Guardado (2002 central division flag), Corey Koskie (2003 central division flag), Shannon Stewart (2004 central division flag), Brad Radke (2006 central division flag), Bill Smith (2009 central division flag) and Al Newman (TC flag)
  • Introduction of both teams along the foul lines
  • Hennepin County flag raised on Target Plaza by Hennepin County Commissioners Peter McLaughlin and Mark Stenglein.
  • Twins Territory flag raised on Target Plaza
  • Construction workers unfurl a giant American flag replica in center field
  • Spec. Jake Benson of the Minnesota Army National Guard raises the American Flag on Target Plaza. Spec. Benson was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in Iraq with the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division. The Minnesota Twins have also invited select family members of service members killed as a tribute to their sacrifice for our nation.
  • Special arrangement of the National Anthem performed by The Twin Cities All-Stars comprised of members of the Sounds of Blackness, The Steeles, Moore by Four and the Twin Cities Community Gospel Choir
  • Military flyover of F-16s performed by the 148th Fighter Wing of the Air National Guard located in Duluth, Minn. with fireworks to follow
  • The Story of Target Field video
  • Introduction of special guests including Hennepin County Commissioner Mike Opat, Twins Sports Inc. President Jerry Bell, and Mortenson Construction Superintendent Dave Mansell
  • Introduction of Twins retired number legends to present baseballs for the ceremonial first pitches
  • Ceremonial first pitches by Hennepin County Commission Chair Mike Opat, President of Twins Sports, Inc. Jerry Bell and Mortenson Construction Superintendent Dave Mansell
  • Twins take the field
  • Play Ball!

"Take Me out to the Ballgame" in the 7th inning will be performed by Twins alumni. It will be preceded by a performance of "God Bless America" by popular local artist G.B. Leighton.

Single-Game Tickets Still Available While the Inaugural Home Opener is sold out, the Twins have released single-game inventory that was previously being held for season tickets. Fans interested in purchasing single-game tickets should check back often as single-game tickets do remain for many games. Single-game tickets for the Inaugural Season at Target Field are still on sale at www.twinsbaseball.com/tickets, by calling 612-33-TWINS or 800-33-TWINS, at the Target Field box office and at Twins Pro Shop locations in Apple Valley, Minnetonka and Roseville.
