Colorado Rockies right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez has been named Bank of America Presents the National League
Player of the Week for the period of April 12-18, 2010. Bank of America, the Official Bank of Major League Baseball, is
the presenting sponsor of the National League and American League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect Bank of
America's long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment.
In his only start of the week, Jimenez recorded the first no-hitter of the 2010 season (264th in Major League history)
in the Rockies' 4-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves on April 17th at Turner Field. Jimenez, who issued six walks in the
contest, retired the last 12 hitters he faced to preserve the no-hitter - the first in Colorado Rockies history. The hardthrowing
righty compiled seven strikeouts and threw a career-high 128 pitches in 9.0 innings of work, improving his
record to a perfect 3-0 on the season. The 26-year-old native of Nagua, Dominican Republic became the fourth
Dominican-born player to throw a no-hitter in the Majors, joining Jose Jimenez of the Cardinals (June 25, 1999 at
Arizona), Ramon Martinez of the Dodgers (July 14, 1995 against Florida), and Hall of Famer Juan Marichal (June 15, 1963
with San Francisco against Houston). This marks the first career weekly award for Jimenez.
Other nominees this past week included Adam Wainwright (2-0, 1.06 ERA, 16 SO) of the St. Louis Cardinals; San
Diego's Kevin Correia (2-0, 1.59 ERA, 11 SO); Andre Ethier (.423, 3 HR, 9 RBI) and Matt Kemp (.333, 4 HR, 8 RBI, .875
SLG) of the Los Angeles Dodgers; Philadelphia's Chase Utley (.333, 5 HR, 8 RBI, 1.048 SLG); Milwaukee's Ryan Braun
(.423, 2 HR, 8 RBI); Washington's Ivan Rodriguez (.476, 5 2B, 7 RBI) and Florida's Dan Uggla (.464, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 13 H).
