Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig today announced the appointment of Dr. Charles Steinberg as his Senior Advisor for Public Affairs.

Steinberg, who has worked in Major League Baseball 34 years for four franchises, has spent most of the last decade as Executive Vice President of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox.

"Charles has been committed to enhancing the clubs' relationships with their fans and with their communities, and he has been instrumental in the popularity those clubs have achieved," Selig said. "He will take a proactive role in developing the initiatives that impact and improve the enjoyment of fans throughout the nation and around the world."

Steinberg worked 19 years for his native Baltimore Orioles, seven for the San Diego Padres, and six for the Red Sox before joining the Dodgers in 2008 as Chief Marketing Officer. Those clubs have reached the postseason 10 times, the World Series five times, and won three World Series.

"I am honored to be asked to work with the Commissioner of Baseball," said Steinberg, who will be based primarily in Milwaukee. "I look forward to working with him and his staff to promote the game and its inspiring stories."
