New York Yankees left-handed pitcher Andy Pettitte has been named to replace Boston Red Sox right-handed pitcher Clay Buchholz on the American League's active roster for the 81st All-Star Game, Major League Baseball announced today.
Because Buchholz was a player-elected All-Star, his replacement is to be the next highest ranking pitcher who was not already an All-Star via the Player Ballot. Pettitte ranked sixth on the A.L. Player Ballot with 127 votes. This will be the third All-Star Game for Pettitte (10-2, 2.82 ERA, 16 GS). He also was named in 1996 and 2001.
Other announcements regarding the All-Star rosters will be made as they become available.
Complete American League and National League rosters are attached.
The 81st Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX Sports, in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and Sportsnet HD and Le Reseau des Sports, and around the world by Major League Baseball International, with pregame ceremonies beginning at 8:00 p.m. (EDT)/5:00 p.m. (PDT). ESPN Radio will provide exclusive national radio coverage. MLB Network, MLB.com and Sirius XM also will provide comprehensive All-Star Game coverage.
