Bobby Jenks Named Winner of the MLB Delivery Man of the Month Award for June

Bobby Jenks of the Chicago White Sox has been selected as the winner of the Major League Baseball Delivery Man of the Month Award for June, it was announced today. This Major League Baseball award recognizes the most outstanding relief pitcher during each month of the regular season as voted on by a panel from Major League Baseball.

Jenks led the Majors in saves during the month, converting each of his 10 opportunities. The 29-year-old right-hander allowed just seven hits and one earned run in 12.0 innings pitched over 13 appearances. In addition, Bobby collected 14 strikeouts with one walk, and held opposing hitters to a .171 batting average. Jenks, who has now converted 12 consecutive save opportunities dating back to May 11th, picked up saves in back-to-back days on June 17th at Pittsburgh and June 18th at Washington, tossing a perfect inning in each contest. Bobby earned a save in three straight appearances from June 12th-17th, hurling 1.0 inning with two strikeouts in each outing. The two-time A.L. All-Star recorded saves in three consecutive games against the Atlanta Braves from June 22nd-24th, pitching a combined 2.1 innings and permitting just one hit. Jenks, who was originally drafted by the Angels in the fifth round of the 2000 First-Year Player Draft, picked up his 162nd career save on June 23rd and passed Roberto Hernandez (161) for sole possession of second place on the club's all-time save list. Jenks trails only Bobby Thigpen, who closed out 201 games during his career with the White Sox.

Other relievers receiving votes included Billy Wagner (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 9 SV, 11.1 IP, 5 BB, 17 SO) of the Braves; Mariano Rivera (2-0, 0.00 ERA, 7 SV, 13.0 IP, 2 BB, 16 SO) of the New York Yankees; Neftali Feliz (0-0, 1.80 ERA, 8 SV, 10.0 IP, 6 BB, 12 SO) of the Texas Rangers; and Kansas City's Joakim Soria (0-0, 1.80 ERA, 8 SV, 10.0 IP, 1 BB, 10 SO).
