Tampa Bay Rays right-handed relief pitcher Rafael Soriano has been named to replace New York Yankees right-handed relief pitcher Mariano Rivera on the American League's active roster for the 81st All-Star Game, Major League Baseball announced today.

Because Rivera was a player-elected All-Star, his replacement is to be the next highest ranking relief pitcher who was not already an All-Star via the Player Ballot. Soriano ranked fourth among relief pitchers on the A.L. Player Ballot with 67 votes. This will be the first All-Star Game for Soriano, who is 2-0 with a 1.65 ERA and 23 saves in 24 opportunities.

Other announcements regarding the All-Star rosters will be made as they become available.

The 81st Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX Sports, in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and Sportsnet HD and Le Reseau des Sports, and around the world by Major League Baseball International, with pregame ceremonies beginning at 8:00 p.m. (EDT)/5:00 p.m. (PDT). ESPN Radio will provide exclusive national radio coverage. MLB Network, MLB.com and Sirius XM also will provide comprehensive All-Star Game coverage.
