Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Rafael Furcal has been named to replace Jose Reyes of the New York Mets on the National League's active roster for the 81st All-Star Game, Major League Baseball announced today.
Because Reyes, who will miss the Midsummer Classic with a strained right oblique, made the N.L. roster via the
Player Ballot, his replacement is to be the next highest ranking shortstop on the Player Ballot. Furcal finished fourth
among National League shortstops with 81 votes. This is Furcal's second career All-Star Game selection, having also
been chosen in 2003.
Other announcements regarding the All-Star rosters will be made if they become necessary.
The 81st Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX Sports, in Canada by Rogers
Sportsnet and Sportsnet HD and Le Reseau des Sports, and around the world by Major League Baseball International,
with pregame ceremonies beginning at 8:00 p.m. (EDT)/5:00 p.m. (PDT). ESPN Radio will provide exclusive national
radio coverage. MLB Network, MLB.com and Sirius XM also will provide comprehensive All-Star Game coverage.
