ARLINGTON -- The Texas Rangers honored Michael Young for becoming the franchise's all-time career hits leader prior to Saturday's game with Baltimore.

Young singled in the eighth inning on June 16 at Florida for his 1,748th hit in a Rangers uniform, surpassing the all-time Washington/Texas franchise record that had been held by Ivan Rodriguez.

During the ceremony, the following presentations were made to Michael:

• A framed 2010 jersey from Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant with personal congratulations on his accomplishment, presented by Ian Kinsler on behalf of his teammates.

• A framed Rangers jersey with the number "1748" on the back, signifying the record hit total, presented by Jon Daniels on behalf of the Rangers organization.

• An original artwork by noted sports artist V. Wells that celebrates this accomplishment, presented by Nolan Ryan on behalf of the Rangers organization.

A special limited edition lithograph of the original V. Wells artwork will be produced and sold at the Rangers Foundation auction kiosk at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington to benefit the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation and the Carson Leslie Foundation. The pieces will be personally signed by Young and Wells, the father of Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Vernon Wells. Ten of those lithographs will be given away to lucky fans during tonight's game.

In addition, the third base that is being used in tonight's game will be signed by Young and auctioned through the Texas Rangers Foundation's in-game auction at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Proceeds from that benefit the Carson Leslie Foundation.

The Carson Leslie Foundation exists to provide funds for research leading to a cure of pediatric cancers & to enrich the lives of teens and their families battling cancer. Carson Leslie had this moxie, a bold charming confidence, an indomitable spirit, a disarming smile that would warm a room. Carson captivated Michael Young's heart on the golf course and the friendship that developed between Carson and Michael gave Carson an extra spring in his step during his battle with cancer that ended on January 12, 2010 at the age of 17.

Saturday is also Coca-Cola & Walgreens Michael Young Cap Night with the first 20,000 fans that enter the park receiving a red and white cap.
