Chicago Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez has been named Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week for the period of July 19-25, 2010. Bank of America, the Official Bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the National League and American League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect Bank of America's long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment.

Ramirez hit .360 (9-for-25) in six games last week and was tied for the Major League-lead with four home runs while his 10 RBI were good for second. The Dominican-born slugger recorded a .393 on-base percentage and an .840 slugging percentage during the week, collecting nine hits with five runs scored. On Tuesday, July 20th, Ramirez mashed three homers for the fourth time in his career and tied a career-high with seven RBI (also September 18, 2006 at Philadelphia) in a 14-7 win over Houston. It was the second multi-home run performance of the season for the 32-year-old veteran. Ramirez had two multi-RBI performances on the week and collected hits in all six games. Ramirez has sizzled during the month of July, hitting .351 with 24 RBI and a Major League-best nine home runs. This is the third weekly award for Ramirez, his first since being named co-Player of the Week for July 18-24, 2005 (an award he shared with Miguel Cabrera, then of the Florida Marlins).

Other nominees this past week included Ramirez' teammates Starlin Castro (.407, 11 H, 6 RBI, SB) and Derrek Lee (.423, 11 H, 7 R); Pittsburgh's Pedro Alvarez (.280, 4 HR, 8 RBI); Atlanta's Jason Heyward (.538, 14 H, .613 OBP, .615 SLG, 2 SB) and Brian McCann (.300, 2 HR, 8 RBI); John Jay (.500, 4 2B, .833 SLG) of the St. Louis Cardinals; San Francisco's Buster Posey (.480, 12 H, .536 OBP), Madison Bumgarner (2-0, 2.13 ERA, 10 SO) and Brian Wilson (0.00 ERA, 4.1 IP, 6 SO, 4 SV); Houston's Angel Sanchez (.417, 10 H, 3 2B) and Wandy Rodriguez (2-0, 3.46 ERA, 9 SO, 13.0 IP); Arizona's Justin Upton (.444, HR, 6 2B, .559 OBP); Cincinnati's Joey Votto (.375, 3 HR, 7 RBI, .704 SLG) and Johnny Cueto (2-0, 1.29 ERA, 10 SO, 14.0 IP); Milwaukee's Rickie Weeks (3 HR, 7 RBI, 7 R, SB); San Diego's Heath Bell (0.00 ERA, 5 SO, 3 SV); Chad Billingsley (1-0, 0.00 ERA, CG) of the Los Angeles Dodgers; and Washington's Livan Hernandez (1-0, 1.00 ERA, CG).
