Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez has been named Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week for the period of July 26-August 1, 2010. Bank of America, the Official Bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the National League and American League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect Bank of America's long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment.

Gonzalez posted a .533 (16-for-30) batting average on the week while clubbing four home runs and leading the National League with a 1.067 slugging percentage. His batting average and home run totals both placed second among National Leaguers while his 16 hits, 10 runs scored and 32 total bases were tops in the Majors. Cargo's seven RBI, .559 on-base percentage, two doubles and two stolen bases also ranked among the N.L. leaders. The 24-year-old native of Maracaibo, Venezuela hit safely in six of Colorado's seven games this week while notching five multi-hit games in that span. Gonzalez tied a career-high with home runs in four consecutive games this week (July 28th and 29th vs. Pittsburgh and July 30th and 31st against the Cubs). On Saturday, July 31st, the left-handed slugger hit for the cycle, capping the performance with a walk-off homer in the ninth inning to beat the Cubs, 6-5. Gonzalez became one of only five players in MLB history to hit a walk-off homer in the same game as their cycle (last was Dwight Evans, 6/28/84 vs. SEA). His four-hit performance tied a season-high and 10 total bases set a new career-high. This marks the first-career weekly award for Gonzalez.

Other nominees this past week included Gonzalez's teammate Dexter Fowler (.400, 10 H, 6 R, 2 SB); Washington's Ian Desmond (.421, .684 SLG, 5 RBI); Houston's Chris Johnson (.476, .714 SLG, 10 H, 4 RBI) and Brett Myers (1-0, 1.00, CG, 12 SO); Arizona's Adam LaRoche (.280, 2 HR, 9 RBI); Cincinnati's Brandon Phillips (.308, 7 RBI, 6 R), Scott Rolen (.556, 4 2B, 5 RBI, 10 H), Joey Votto (.407, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 11 H) and Bronson Arroyo (1-1, 1.80, 15.0 IP); Florida's Mike Stanton (.333, 2 HR, 5 2B, .792 SLG), Ricky Nolasco (2-0, 2.45, 14 SO, 14.1 IP), Leo Nuñez (2.2 IP, 3 S) and Anibal Sanchez (1-0, 0.00, 9.0 IP, 8 SO); David Wright (.444, 2 HR, 9 RBI, .833 SLG) of the New York Mets; Chad Billingsley (1-0, 0.00, 12.2, 9 SO) of the Los Angeles Dodgers; and Philadelphia's Roy Halladay (1-0, CG, 1.00, 9 SO).
