Tampa Bay Rays three-time All-Star third baseman Evan Longoria and New York Yankees two-time All-Star second baseman have been named of the Bank of America Presents the American League Co-Players of the Week for the period ending August 22nd. Bank of America, the Official Bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the American League and National League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect Bank of America's long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment.

Longoria hit .393 (11-for-28) in seven games during the week and led the A.L. with four doubles, 26 total bases and a .929 slugging percentage. The 24-year-old slugger added three home runs, one triple, 12 RBI and six runs scored with a .400 on-base percentage. Evan recorded consecutive three-hit games on August 17th - 18th at home against the A.L. West-leading Texas Rangers. On August 17th, Longoria went 3-for-4 with three RBI and finished a home run shy of hitting for the cycle in Tampa Bay's 10-1 victory. The next day, the California native again went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and four RBI as the Rays completed a three-game sweep with an 8-6 win. The 2008 A.L. Rookie of the Year hit safely and collected at least one RBI in six of his seven games played last week, including three multi-hit games and three multi-RBI performances. This marks the fifth career A.L. weekly award for Longoria (previous: September 7, 2009 with Toronto's Adam Lind).

Cano led the A.L. with 13 RBI and tied for the league lead with four homers in his seven games during the week. The 27-year-old Dominican native also hit .333 (9-for-27) with a double, seven runs scored, an .815 slugging percentage and a .438 on-base percentage. Robinson homered in three consecutive contests for the first time in his career from August 17th - 19th against the Detroit Tigers at home and capped off his week with a career-high six-RBI performance on Sunday against the Seattle Mariners highlighted by his fourth career grand slam in the fifth inning. This is Robinson's fifth career A.L. weekly award (previous: June 1, 2010).

Other noteworthy performances for the week included Longoria's Rays teammate Matt Garza (2-0, 0.61 ERA, 14.2 IP, 13 SO); Cano's Yankees teammate CC Sabathia (2-0, 1.38 ERA, 13.0 IP, 17 SO); Toronto Blue Jays teammates Lyle Overbay (.316, 3 HR, 10 RBI) and Shaun Marcum (1-1, 2.25 ERA, 16.0 IP, 11 SO); Paul Konerko (.440, 2 HR, 6 RBI) of the White Sox; Clay Buchholz (2-0, 0.00 ERA, 13.0 IP, 10 SO) of the Red Sox; and Detroit's Max Scherzer (2-0, 0.69 ERA, 13.0 IP, 14 SO).
