Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista has been voted the Budweiser Presents American League Player of the Month for April. Budweiser, the official beer sponsor of Major League Baseball and sponsor for 24 of 30 MLB clubs, is also the presenting sponsor of the National League and American League Player of the Month Awards.

Bautista hit an American League-leading .366 (30-for-82) with five doubles, a triple, nine home runs and 15 RBI in 24 games in April. The right-handed slugger led the Majors in runs scored (25), walks (28), on-base percentage (.532) and slugging percentage (.780), and finished third overall (first in the A.L.) in home runs.

The 30-year-old reached base safely in 23 out of 24 games played last month, and reached safely in 65 of his last 75 games through April 30th dating back to last season. Bautista enjoyed six-game hitting streaks on two different occasions. The 2010 A.L. All- Star got his season off to a hot start on Opening Day, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored while launching his first home run of the season as the Blue Jays defeated the Minnesota Twins, 13-3, in Toronto. On April 22nd, the Majors' 2010 home run leader provided the bulk of the Blue Jays offense with a 3-for-3 showing, including two walks, four runs scored and his fifth home run of the season to lead Toronto to a 6-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at the Rogers Centre. The following day, Bautista, a 2010 Silver Slugger Award recipient, had his first multi-homer game of the season, hitting two home runs with three runs scored in a 6-4 loss to the Rays. The Dominican Republic native led the Majors with nine multi-homer games in 2010, five more than anybody else. The reigning A.L. Hank Aaron Award winner finished the month strong, hitting six home runs in his final 11 games. During the span, he hit .455 (15-for-33), adding in four doubles, a triple, 16 walks and 16 runs scored. Along the way, the 20th round selection of the 2000 First-Year Player Draft (by the Pittsburgh Pirates) batted .364 (4-for-11) to help the Jays take three-of-four from the defending A.L. Champion Texas Rangers in Arlington.

The runner-up for the A.L. Player of the Month was New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano, who batted .320 (31-for-97) with seven doubles, eight home runs and 21 RBI in 24 games (including one game played on March 31st). Cano finished April on a five-game hitting streak, batting .389 (7-for-18) with four home runs, seven RBI and seven runs scored over the span. Also receiving votes was Kansas City Royals outfielder Alex Gordon, who hit .339 (37-for-109) with 12 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 19 RBI in 26 games (including one game played on March 31st).

The Budweiser Presents American League Player of the Month, Jose Bautista, will receive a specially designed trophy, suitably engraved, in recognition of his accomplishment.
