Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder has been named the National League Player of the Week for the period of June 6-12, 2011. The announcement was made earlier today on MLB Network. In seven games last week Fielder hit a National League-leading .500 (10-for-20) and led the Majors with six home runs, a 1.500 slugging percentage, a .643 on-base percentage and 30 total bases while tying for the lead in RBI with 13. The 27-year-old's seven walks ranked second in the N.L. while his seven runs scored were tied for second in the league. Fielder had four multi-hit performances and homered in five of the Brewers' seven games this week. On June 8th, Fielder went 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBI, his second four-RBI game of the week. His second big fly of the day was a game-tying, two-run blast in the bottom of the eighth, which propelled the Brewers to an eventual 7-6 victory over the visiting New York Mets. Milwaukee's first round pick (seventh overall) of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft continued his power surge into the Brewers' weekend series with division-rival St. Louis. Fielder homered and scored two runs in Milwaukee's 5-3 win over the visiting Redbirds on Saturday, June 11th. In Sunday's series finale, Fielder went 2-for-3 and smashed a 440-foot, two-run blast in the sixth inning to give the Brewers a lead they would not relinquish. The 4-3 win capped a three-game sweep for the Brewers and moved them into first place in the N.L. Central. Fielder's 58 RBI are tops among National Leaguers this season while his 19 home runs rank second. This is his second weekly award this season (having also won for the week of April 4th-10th) and the fourth of his career.

Other noteworthy performances last week included Fielder's Milwaukee teammates Ryan Braun (.333, HR, 6 RBI, 7 R) and Zack Greinke (2-0, 3.21 ERA, 15 SO, 14.0 IP); Colorado's Carlos Gonzalez (.452, 14 H, 5 2B, .710 SLG) and Troy Tulowitzki (.400, 2 HR, 13 RBI, 12 H, .667 SLG); Matt Kemp (.400, 4 HR, 8 RBI, 1.080 SLG) of the Los Angeles Dodgers; Cincinnati's Mike Leake (2-0, 1.13 ERA, 11 SO, 16.0 IP); Philadelphia's Cliff Lee (2-0, 0.60 ERA, 17 SO, 15.0 IP); San Diego's Tim Stauffer (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 13 SO, 15.0 IP); and Washington's Drew Storen (4 SV, 0.00 ERA, 4 SO, 5.0 IP) and Jordan Zimmerman (1-0, 0.64 ERA, 14.0 IP, 13 SO).
