Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman has been voted the July recipient of the Gillette presents National League Rookie of the Month Award.

Freeman led all Major League rookies with 38 hits, a .362 batting average (38-for-105) and a .433 on-base percentage in 27 games during July. The 21-year-old also paced N.L. rookies with six home runs and 17 runs scored, and tied for the lead with 18 RBI while adding seven doubles and a .600 slugging percentage. The California native hit safely in 23 of his 27 contests, including each of the last 15 games during the month. The left-handed-hitting Freeman currently has a 18-game hitting streak, which is the longest by any rookie in the Majors this season. In addition, Freddie has reached base safely via hit, walk or hit-by-pitch in 39 of his last 43 games dating back to June 16th. On July 4th against the Colorado Rockies at Turner Field, Freeman recorded his first career multi-homer performance, going 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI to lead the Braves to a 4-1 victory. The following day, Freddie went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in the second inning to put the Braves on the scoreboard in the eventual 5-3 win. On July 17th, Freeman drove in the winning run in the ninth inning against the Washington Nationals to notch his first career walk-off hit in the 9-8 win. The second round selection in the 2007 First- Year Player Draft collected 10 multi-hit games during the month, including three consecutive three-hit games from July 26th-28th against the Pittsburgh Pirates. For the season, Freeman leads N.L. rookies in batting average (.296), hits (116), doubles (26), walks (39) and extra-base hits (41), and ranks second in multi-hit games (30) and home runs (15).

Others rookies receiving votes included Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Vance Worley (4-0, 2.04 ERA, 1 CG, 35.1 IP, 20 H, 9 BB, 29 SO); Freeman's teammate and June's Gillette presents National League Rookie of the Month Award winner Craig Kimbrel (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 12 G, 8 SV, 12.0 IP, 5 H, 3 BB, 19 SO); Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed reliver Javy Guerra (1-0, 1.00 ERA, 10 G, 6 SV, 9.0 IP, 7 H, 2 BB, 9 SO); and San Diego Padres outfielder Jesus Guzman (.345, 3 HR, 18 RBI, 7 2B, 10 R, 2 SB, .636 SLG).
