Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun has been voted the Budweiser Presents National League
Player of the Month for September. Budweiser, the official beer sponsor of Major League Baseball and sponsor
for 24 of 30 MLB Clubs, is also the presenting sponsor of the National League and American League Player of the
Month Awards.
In 25 contests during September, Braun tied for second in the National
League with eight home runs and 22 RBI while hitting .330 (33-for-100). The Mission
Hills, California native ranked seventh among National Leaguers in slugging
percentage (.620) and runs scored (17) while his 33 hits tied for ninth during
September. Braun's clutch hitting during the month was a key factor in the Brew
Crew's N.L. Central Division-winning run. On September 13th, Braun clubbed a walkoff,
11th-inning homer against the Colorado Rockies to give the Brewers a 2-1 victory
at Miller Park. On September 23rd, the 27-year-old swatted a three-run, go-ahead home run in the bottom of the
eighth to lead the Brewers to a 4-1, division-clinching victory over the visiting Florida Marlins. Braun, who became
the second player in Brewers' franchise history to produce a 30-homer, 30-steal season (Tommy Harper, 31 home
runs / 38 stolen bases in 1970), finished the season with a league-leading .597 slugging percentage while ranking
second in hitting (.332) and runs scored (109), and fourth in RBI (111). This is his fourth career monthly award and
second this season, having won previously for July of 2007 and 2008, and April of this year.
Other players receiving votes were Braun's Milwaukee teammate Prince Fielder (.329, 9 HR, 18 RBI, 14 R,
.706 SLG, .457 OBP); Matt Kemp (.347, 7 HR, 22 RBI, 27 R, .653 SLG, .420 OBP) of the Los Angeles Dodgers;
San Francisco's Pablo Sandoval (.384, 7 HR, 19 RBI, 28 H, .795 SLG) and Carlos Beltran (.386, 6 HR, 14 RBI,
.716 SLG, .443 OBP); and Albert Pujols (.363, 5 HR, 19 RBI, 37 H, 17 R, .402 OBP) and Lance Berkman (.379, 33
H, 15 R, .465 OBP) of the N.L. Wild Card-winning St. Louis Cardinals.
The Budweiser Presents National League Player of the Month, Ryan Braun, will receive a specially
designed trophy, suitably engraved, in recognition of his accomplishment.
