Major League Baseball announced today that Rafael Perez has been named Director of Dominican Operations. Perez will be based in MLB's office in Santo Domingo.

Perez, who previously served as Director of International Operations for the New York Mets, will succeed Jorge Perez-Diaz, MLB's interim Director of Latin American Operations, on November 1st. Perez-Diaz will continue to manage Major League Baseball's legal affairs throughout Latin America.

Kim Ng, MLB's Senior Vice President for Baseball Operations, said: "Major League Baseball thanks Jorge for his tireless dedication to our efforts in the Dominican Republic during this interim period and we look forward to working with him on coordinating our legal matters in the future. We also welcome Rafael as Director of Dominican Operations during this transitional period. His understanding of the cultural, political and economic landscape of the Dominican Republic combined with his club and central office experiences will bring a new unique perspective to our operations in the Dominican Republic."

Perez joined the New York Mets organization in 2005. As Director of International Operations, Perez oversaw the Mets minor league academy in the Dominican Republic, Winter League relations, and International Player Development and Scouting.

From 2002-2005 Perez served as Senior Manager of Latin American Baseball Operations for Major League Baseball, helping to establish an evaluation system with specific standards for all professional baseball academies. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from the University of South Alabama where he played baseball and he played two seasons in the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system. Perez, a Santo Domingo native, is a founder and member of the Board of Directors for the Latin Executive Leadership Association and a member of the Latin Athletes Education Fund.
